Everything You Love About StinkySocks Hockey

BYOT brings all of the things you love about StinkySocks Hockey’s Standard Games to a format where you can build and manage your own team. Captains get the control they’re looking for, from managing their roster to creating the best jerseys on the ice. At the same time, they need not worry about the administration, such as collecting payments or having to worry about backfilling their team’s goalie spot.

BYOT launched for it’s first season in September, 2016, at the intermediate and lower intermediate levels at our premium location, Phillips Academy in Andover, and our brand new ultra-premium location and Bruins Practice Facility, Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton. Seasons at both locations will continue year-round and other locations will be added for the late winter or early spring of 2017. Let us know where you want BYOT so we’re scheduling around your team!

BYOT League Details

Levels Currently Offered

We work closely with captains to ensure that the teams are being formed in an equitable way that will ensure balance, which is a vital part of the StinkySocks Hockey experience.  For future seasons, any new player who is added to a roster must first be evaluated by a member of the SSH staff by skating in No Commitment Hockey game. Please refer to our skill level page for more info or call the league office for clarification.

Lower Intermediate (C-/D+) – This level specifically excludes anyone who has had high school experience. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis, usually only if the player’s high school experience is a significant amount of time in the past.

Intermediate (C) – All players in the C range are eligible (C-, C,  C+). This level specifically excludes anyone who has had college experience. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis, usually only if the player’s college experience is a significant amount of time in the past.

Rosters

Each team may roster up to 17 skaters (unless otherwise noted) and 2 goalies for their team, a maximum of 15 (unless otherwise noted) of which may dress for any one game. Players may be added, up to the maximum at any point until the halfway point of the season.  Up to 2 players (skaters or goalies) may be swapped one for one at any time before the halfway point of the season, in the case of an injury or for any other reason. If your rostered goalies are unavailable or you need additional players for any one game, both may be chosen and placed only by the StinkySocks Hockey league office. Teams will not be allowed to bring in substitute players on their own who are not on the team’s roster.

Occasional Players – Each team can use up to 2 of their roster spots for “occasional” players, who are not charged by the league. Occasional players must be rostered 2 weeks prior to participating in any game, must be evaluated in a StinkySocks Hockey No Commitment Hockey game prior to playing for your team, and also cannot be removed/replaced once added. Occasional players do not receive SSH Full Time Benefits.

Late Roster Additions – If a player is added to the roster after the first game, their cost will be prorated based upon the number of games left in the season and the number of players on the team (including them). The amount that the new player pays is then credited back to all players who had paid prior to them. This credit is in the form of a credit that can be applied to the following season or converted to a StinkySocks Hockey gift certificate at the end of the season.

Example of how this works –  If there were 10 games left in a season of 18 games where the team cost was $4,750 and the team had 14 players including the individual joining, the cost would be calculated as follows: ( ( $4,750 / 18) * 10 ) / 14  = $188.49, which is the prorated cost of the league for the remainder of the season, divided by the entire team. The amount paid would then be distributed equally to the 13 players who paid prior to them, in this case $14.50 per player ( $188.49 / 15 ).

Payments

All payments are directly between the league office and the individual players, so there is no need for captains to handle any money other than their own payments. Players can choose to pay up front or elect a payment plan. If choosing to pay up front, players are charged as if there are 13 players on your team (team cost divided by 13). One week prior to the start of your league, that cost will be recalculated based on the actual amount of players on your team at that time – In the event that your team has more or less than 13 players, each will be charged (in the case of under 13) or refunded (in the case of over 13) the difference between what they paid and the final cost. It is in the discretion of the team whether or not to charge their goalie(s) and, if so, how much to charge them.

Examples of how this works – The team cost is $5,400. Each player pays $415.38 up front (the league cost based on 13 players). If one week prior to the league beginning the team has 15 skaters and 1 paying goalie, each player would receive a refund of $77.88 ( $415.38 – $337.50 ). If the team had 11 skaters and 1 paying goalie then each player would be charged and additional $34.62 ( $415.38 – $450.00 ). If the team had 12 skaters and 1 paying goalie then no credit/refund would be necessary.

Payment Plans

If the payment plan is elected, a down payment of $100 must be made. The remaining balance is based upon the number of players on your team one week from the start of your league (team cost divided by the actual amount of players, minus your $100 deposit). That amount will be split up into 4 payments that will be charged on the 20th of September, October, November, and December. There is an additional admin fee of $5 that is included with each installment.

Payment plans are offered as a convenience and does not exempt the player from their obligation to pay in full under any condition. In the event that an individual player’s payment plan installment fails, that player will become ineligible until the payment is made. If a player’s payment cannot be collected within 21 days then the player will be disqualified and team as a whole will be responsible for the balance. We will continue to try to recover the amount due through collections and reimburse the team if/when we are successful in doing so.

Renewals

Our BYOT leagues are available year-round. Current teams will have the first opportunity to renew for any subsequent season, at the 3/4 point of the current season. New teams are welcome for league expansion and in the event that a current team does not renew.

Schedules and Stats

The entire schedule for the season will be posted before your league begins. There will be a system on the StinkySocks Hockey website where rosters, schedules, and stats, can be viewed.

Playoffs

There will be single elimination playoffs at the end of each season. Any team that is eliminated will still play their full amount of games stated in the season, as there’s no reason to take a week off.

Rules & Policies

All StinkySocks Hockey policies apply unless otherwise stated. The policies that do notapply to BYOT Leagues are: Equitable Ice Time Policy, Attendance Policy (skater/goalie), and Standby Policy. As with all StinkySocks Hockey games and events, the age minimum to participate is 21.

Any player who is disqualified for any reason is not eligible to receive a refund and remains responsible for payment in full of any balance owed. In the event of non-payment, the team as a whole is responsible for the balance of the disqualified player unless/until it can be collected from the individual.

Important info for those playing in Andover at Phillips Academy – Phillips Academy has a strict, zero tolerance, policy on alcohol possession/consumption on their property. If anyone on your team were to be found in violation of their alcohol policy then the entire team would not allowed to return and, as such the entire team would lose the ability to play there without an option for a refund.

Game Eligibility

To be eligible to play in any game, a player must be rostered on the team that they are playing for and also be a player in good standing with StinkySocks Hockey. A player in good standing means that the player is current on their league dues and is not otherwise ineligible to participate in a StinkySocks Hockey game (admin hold, conduct case, etc).

Players must provide photo identification to the scorekeeper before getting on the ice.

Officiating

There will be two on ice officials and one scorekeeper.

Uniforms

For the 2016-2017 Fall/Early Winter season, each team must have one set of matching uniforms and no two teams may have the same color. Teams may secure their color by being the first to secure their team’s spot. In subsequent seasons any color jerseys may be used but each team must have 2 sets (home and away). Teams may also choose to use the StinkySocks Hockey jersey set and/or reversible jersey.

Benefits

All rostered players are considered StinkySocks Hockey “full time league players” and, as such are eligible for the benefits that come along with that, including the ability to subscribe to our Full Time Unlimited membership, access our Bruins tickets that are below box office prices, discounted NCH games and merchandise, and more. The Full Time Unlimited is our new plan that gives players access to unlimited hockey at one low monthly cost, currently $99.

The team as a whole has the benefit of being guaranteed a spot in our tournaments, including the 2017 Quebec Winter Classic in February, if registered by the early registration deadlines (see respective tournament page for date).
