Highlights of No Commitment Hockey
Ways to Play
Hockey On Your Schedule, Game By Game
For those looking for the ultimate combination of both schedule flexibility and game consistency, No Commitment Hockey® allows you to book any of our Standard Games or skills clinics that have availability, whenever you’d like. Get on the ice seven nights a week or once a year, the frequency is up to you.
How it Works
Book Through Game Time
- Booking – All skater and goalie spots are available on a first to reserve basis. Reserving your spot is easy, simply add your desired game to your cart and we’ll hold your spot for 5 minutes while you complete your checkout. If there is availability and the system allows you to book a spot then you’re good to go.
- Team Assignments – You’ll receive a team assignment via email if you’ve registered before rosters are drafted. Please note that team assignments are not guaranteed. To ensure game quality and balance you may be asked by staff member to change teams. In the event that you don’t receive a team assignment, please be sure to bring a copy of your booking confirmation with you.
- At the Rink – Your name will appear on the roster that our staff member will have at the rink. In the event that you haven’t received a team assignment, simply show receipt to the staff member at the game and they’ll issue you a team assignment for the game. From there, just get out there and have fun!
Booking For Others
Due to the need to identify each player individually, players cannot book for others under their own accounts. To book for another player, simply give us a call or contact us with the details and permission to charge your credit card on file. The player(s) you’re booking for must have a StinkySocks Hockey account set up already to be booked and also must have a waiver on file to be eligible to play. When booking for others, we’ll charge your card and your receipt will indicate a “funds transfer” in the amount of the game that’s being booked. Your friend will receive the usual order confirmation and team assignment.
Waitlisting for Sold Out Games
If your desired game is sold out then add your name to the wait list and you will be notified via text message if a spot becomes available. The option to wait list will replace the option to “add to cart” whenever a game is sold out and all wait list submission must be completed online.
Terms
RIGHT AND AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE
By purchasing a Standard Game or skills clinic through No Commitment Hockey (“NCH”), you are purchasing the non-transferable right to participate in that event, provided that you meet the qualifications for eligibility. You agree to be bound by these terms and conditions and the rules and policies of the league. Since your attendance at a Standard Game directly affects the experience of other players, you agree to give notice to the league in accordance with our attendance policy in the event that you cannot attend the game that you have purchased.
BEST EFFORT SERVICE PROMISES
We want every game to be perfect and our promise to you is that we’ll make every effort for that to happen. However, there are many variables involved in producing a game, some of which may be out of our direct control at times. As such, our Standard Games are offered as a “best effort” service. Experiences that are imperfect in following areas are ineligible for compensation:
GOALIES – Although StinkySocks Hockey cannot guarantee two goalies for any game, we do everything in our power to ensure that there are two goalies scheduled. As a result of our goalie backfilling process, it is rare that there is a game that goes forward without two scheduled goalies. However, on occasion we may not be able to place two goalies, there may be a scheduled goalie who does not appear (no call/no show), or a goalie who calls out too late for another goalie to be placed.
LEVELING – We have an approach that ideally keeps leveling where it should be. That starts with the honestly of players, is monitored by our games staff, and is follow up upon by the office, in the case of a level violation.
MINIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS – In order to establish clear expectations we have specific minimum thresholds for how many players are needed for a game to proceed (see below, under “Cancellations or Changes by StinkySocks Hockey”). The numbers that we use in that determination are based on the information that we have regarding who has registered for a season pass or single game and not called out. However, it’s important to note that the actual amount of players may be different than those scheduled if there is/are players who have not called out as required if they do not intend to appear/play.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS – We make every effort to ensure that no more than (20) skaters and (2) goalies are booked for a Standard Game.
SERVICE GUARANTEES
GAME TIME – We guarantee that the scheduled ice block will be available for your Standard Game at or about the time scheduled. In the case that the facility is running behind, game start times may be delayed. This guarantee does not apply to any game that has been canceled in advance or if there is a circumstance beyond our control that prevents ice availability or safe operation of a game at the facility.
REFEREE – We have a referee scheduled for every Standard Game. In the case that the scheduled referee does not appear for a Standard Game, compensation in the form of a $10 promotional offer will be issued before the season end, to be used within 30 days of issue towards another available Standard Game.
CANCELLATIONS OR CHANGES BY THE PLAYER
All NCH purchases are non-refundable but cancellations more than 6 hours prior to game time are entitled to benefits. Game cancellations cannot be reversed.
A promotional gift certificate in the amount of the full value of a canceled game is issued as a benefit when a callout for that game is received more than 6 hours before game time. Promotional gift certificates can be used for any purchase on our website within one month of the original game. Cancellations of any future games booked with promotional gift certificates that are entitled to cancellation benefits will be credited to this same code, with the expiration remaining the same. Promotional gift certificates cannot be used to purchase regular gift certificates and cannot be combined. There is a limit of one promotional gift certificate per transaction.
Additional Game Change Benefits for Players with Full Time Member, Veteran Member, and Unlimited Member status – Players in these categories may transfer into any Hot List game at no cost or apply a $10 credit towards any other game when calling out 3 hours or more in advance of their scheduled game. The chosen game must be available at the time the game callout is processed and must be selected at the time of callout.
Additional Unlimited Membership Holders – Unlimited Membership Holders may cancel any No Commitment Hockey game for a full refund to the original form of payment, provided that the callout is received more than 3 hours in advance.
TIME CHANGES
In the event of a schedule cancelation players will be notified at the email address on the original booking. Players will automatically be confirmed at the new game time if the time change is 60 minutes or less. In the case of a time change greater than 60 minutes, players may choose at the time of notification to receive a refund to the original form or payment or to be confirmed at the new game time being offered.
CANCELLATIONS BY STINKYSOCKS HOCKEY
In rare cases it is required for StinkySocks Hockey to cancel a scheduled game. In the event of a cancelation we will make every attempt to contact players. To facilitate that, it is important to have current contact information on your game order. Players are notified by text message, phone, and/or email. If you would like to be notified by text message (usually the quickest way to get out the message), please be sure that the primary phone number on your order is a number capable of receiving text messages.
For any game canceled by StinkySocks, NCH players may choose to switch to any other game that’s available at that time or receive a refund to the original form of payment.
MINIMUM THRESHOLD CANCELATIONS – There must be at least 8 skaters and 2 goalies OR 10 skaters and 1 goalie scheduled for a Standard Game in order for a game to proceed. If that threshold is not met, StinkySocks Hockey will cancel a game. Please note that the actual amount of skaters/goalies may be different than those scheduled if there is/are no call/no show(s).
WEATHER-RELATED CANCELATIONS – Some games may be canceled in the event of weather. All weather-related decisions are deferred host facility as the entity in the best position to make a responsible decision based on the conditions in their area. Facilities may also deem it necessary to cancel a game if they are unable to provide a safe or otherwise usable playing surface.
FAQs
Q: How do I provide notification if I can’t make a game that I registered for?
A: You can notify the league online, or by calling us at 617-440-7825.
Q: Can I get a refund if I need to cancel?
A: All NCH purchases are non-refundable. Cancellation benefits are available that provide a promotional gift certificate in the full value of the game is issued when cancelling more than 6 hours prior to game time. Your membership tier may provide additional game cancellation benefits.
Q: Is there a referee?
A: Yes, all games are officiated.
Q: Can I just show up and pay at the rink?
A: No, all bookings must be completed online. Skaters who can be positively identified by their StinkySocks Hockey jersey may go on standby for a game. If they are cleared to play, they must pay online by midnight on the day of the game. Refer to the standby policy for more info.
Q: There’s a game time and location that works for me but I don’t qualify for the level. Can I play?
A: Players at each game must individually qualify for the stated level range of the game. Skaters who display an ability level outside of the stated range may be asked play in a restricted manner (if above that range), or may be asked to leave. Please refer to our level policy for more information.
Q: Do I need a StinkySocks Hockey jersey?
A: All skaters need to own and wear a Stinkysocks Hockey jersey to be eligible to participate. Although encouraged, this does not apply to goalies.
Q: Are all players signing up through No Commitment Hockey?
A: No Commitment Hockey allows players to book when there are spots in a Standard Game that aren’t reserved by a committed player who has registered for the entire season through a season pass. As such there, there will be a mix of players who are season pass holders and have booked through No Commitment Hockey.
Q: Do you guarantee that there are going to be 2 goalies?
A: Due to the goalie placement processes that we have in place, our players come to expect 2 goalies at everyStinkySocks Hockey Standard Game. Although we cannot guarantee two goalies at any game, our Goalie Promise is that we do guarantee that we’ll do everything in our power to ensure that there are two goalies scheduled. In the event of a goalie callout or vacancy, most goalie spots are filled on their own through the Goalie No Commitment Hockey program. If a spot remains, the league office takes the every reasonable step to avoid having a game without a goalie, including the placement a goalie from our Goalie Reserve program, if available. Although rare, it is rare that there is a game that goes forward without two scheduled goalies. However, on occasion there may be a scheduled goalie who does not appear (no call/no show) or calls out too late for another goalie to be placed, resulting in a game without a goalie. In that event, we remain committed to ensure that doesn’t recur though a follow up process that’s governed by our goalie attendance policy.
Q: Can I play on the same team as a friend?
A: You can submit a team request for your game and we’ll do our best to place you on the same team.
Q: Are there going to be enough players for the game?
A: Most games fill up, or come close to full, by game time. We do not provide exact numbers to players in advance since it’s impossible that those numbers would give an accurate representation of the final numbers come game time.
Q: Under what conditions would a game be canceled? How would I be notified?
A: There must be at least 8 skaters and 2 goalies OR 10 skaters and 1 goalie scheduled for an Standard Game for it to proceed. Please note that the actual amount of skaters/goalies may be different than those scheduled if there are no call/no show(s). In the discretion of the host facility it may be necessary to cancel due to inclimate weather. In the event of a cancellation, players are notified by by text message (if the primary number on the order is capable of receiving text messages), phone, and/or email. In the event of a cancellation, those who booked through No Commitment Hockey may receive a refund to the original form of payment or be transferred into any other NCH listing.
Q: When will I get my team assignment?
A: For evening games, team assignments generally are emailed between 6PM and 7PM on the day of the game. Timing of team assignments for morning and afternoon games vary.
Q: Will everyone be at my level?
A: All games have a level range indicated. Although most ranges are specific, there still can be a little bit of a variance within that range. For example, the intermediate (C) level is open to players ranging from C- to C+. As such, any one game at that level should ideally have an equal distribution of C-, C, and C+ players. If there were say 75% C+ players registered then the game overall would skew to be a little faster than average, with the same principal applying if there was a critical mass of C-. Both of those situations are possible but what matters is that ALL players that are present individually qualify to be at that level. For friends of varying ability level who are looking to play together we offer a select amount of broader level games (e.g. mixed mid level – D+ through C+).
Q: How old do I have to be to play?
A: StinkySocks Hockey is a 21+ league. On a case by case basis exceptions can be made to allow those who are 18+ (contact us for more info).
Q: If something is imperfect will I get a credit?
A: We operate approximately 3,000 games per year and we strive for a consistently excellent experience at each one. However, there are times when things don’t go exactly to plan. If that happens and we could have done better then we’ll reach out to all players and let them know what happened, as well as provide any necessary goodwill credit. Situations that fall outside of that context include goalie and skater no shows, or other situations that are outside of our control.
Q: If a game is full can I go on standby?
A: Yes, any player who our staff can positively identify by their StinkySocks Hockey jersey may go on standby for a game. If there is space and they are cleared to play, they must pay online by midnight on the day of the game. Refer to the standby policy for more info.
Q: What equipment is required?
A: Full equipment is required. Shoulder pads, mouth guard, and face shield (skaters), are optional but highly recommended for your safety. Please refer to our equipment policy for more info.
Q: How are lines formed?
A: How lines will be formed will depend on the consensus of the players on your team. Most prefer a rotating bench (first on, first off), particularly if there aren’t a full 10 players. All players should be mindful of their shifts to be sure that everyone is getting equitable ice time (refer to our equitable ice time policy for more info).
Season passes are built around individual and small group entry with consistency in mind.
That means a consistent day and similar times weekly, with your workout and enjoyable experience being the main priorities. Our season passes are a full season series of our Standard Games, each of which provides a relaxed but structured environment with no stats and the idea of forgetting what the score was by the time you hit the parking lot. A great way to describe Standard Games would be to say that they are extremely well organized and officiated pickup games. Benches are capped at 10 skaters and 1 goalie per team to maximize ice time. All you do is show up to your games and everything is taken care of for you.

Players who need to call out for a shorter timeframe can do so with individual callout game benefits. If selecting individual game benefits, the deadline of each promotional gift certificate will be reset at the time or return to be the same length of time you were injured (e.g. they will be valid for 6 weeks from your return if you were injured for 6 weeks) or one month, whichever is greatest.

Individual game cancellations within 3 hours of game time forfeit the value of the game. Game cancellations cannot be reversed once requested.

Promotional gift certificates can be used for any purchase on our website within one month of the original game. Cancellations of any future games booked with promotional gift certificates that are entitled to cancellation benefits will be credited to this same code, with the expiration remaining the same. More Than One Way For a Goalie to Play
Just like skaters, goalies have options for participating in StinkySocks Hockey. Jump into game individually through No Commitment Hockey, book an entire series of Standard Games as a season pass, or fine tune your skills at a goalie clinic. Whatever your choice, you’ll be playing at the location and level that’s best for you. Best of all, GOALIES PLAY IN GAMES AT NO COST!
Goalie No Show Policy
Goalies are an essential part of the quality game that StinkySocks Hockey delivers to its players. Once you sign up for a goalie spot you are committing to be there. If you need to cancel for any reason then we ask you to do so as far in advance as possible. With the right amount of notice we can almost always fill your spot. If you cannot make a scheduled game, we ask that you contact the StinkySocks Hockey league office by phone or a submission on our website.
With the help of our goalies, we have developed a no show policy that we think is fair and still maintains our quality objectives. A “no show” is defined as not providing notice of a cancellation within the guidelines stated below:
- For game times that are at or before 12PM (noon) – Provide notice by 4PM the day prior
- For a game beginning after 12PM and before 5PM – Provide notice by 8PM the day prior
- For a game beginning at or after 5PM and before 8PM – Provide notice by 10AM
- For a game beginning at of after 8PM – Provide notice by 3PM
Goalies who are a “no show” for a game, as defined above, are subject to a $50 fee. Upon a subsequent “no show”, the offending goalie is subject to a $100 fee and may be subject to ineligibility for a period of one year, as determined by the league.
Season pass goalies who call out for more than 20% of their scheduled games in their season may be subject to forfeiting their spot for that season and/or their renewal privileges.
You may provide notice by calling the league office or submitting a callout form online.
Jerseys
All skaters must own and wear a StinkySocks Hockey jersey registered to them in order to be eligible to participate in Standard Games through No Commitment Hockey or a Season Pass.
StinkySocks Hockey jerseys are designed by us with the intent for them to be the only jerseys that you’ll ever need in your hockey bag. With a unique identification number on each, they are a primary source of player identification and enable contactless attendance at our games.
Level Guidance
We work to ensure that the teams are being formed in an equitable way that will ensure balance, which is a vital part of the StinkySocks Hockey experience.
